We are in Padua, where you can admire one of the largest and most enchanting city squares in Europe, Prato della Valle, the scenery of a new graceful tale of renascence.
One of the symbols of Padua, Prato della Valle is a large elliptic square. Besides being the biggest square of the city, it is also one of the biggest of Europe, measuring 88,620 sqm. Overlooking this magnificent area, an ancient palace of 1700 has come back to life thanks to a three-year masterful restoration.
We make sure that the most concealed past
keeps being guarded in each fragment of the aged wood.
Our job is to give voice back to the stories they inhabit.
The materials dialogue among the rooms is obtained by the wood floor entirely restored by MFDesign, laid in an Italian herringbone pattern, according to the best stylistic tradition of the Italian neoclassical culture.
The owner of the residence has in fact chosen to recuperate the pre-existing old wood floor, entrusting MFDesign to meticulously restore and possibly reintegrate materials, if necessary, to create a totally harmonized and homogeneous floor surface.
The renovation work led by our company has indeed given a new light to the antique oak hardwood flooring, realised in slats 200 mm thick x 50 mm wide x 350 mm long, with female/female interlocking, thus enabling to install the floor without splattering color stains.
The intervention of recovery and restoration
has been realised in full respect of the history of the residential building
and of the local culture, as well as in support of a true eco-compatibility.
In fact, the restoration has been realised by using completely sustainable components, such as the sawdust obtained from the production scrap and used along with water glue mixture to repair the “wounds” of the wood. Each slat has been treated with a natural oil and manually torn, piece by piece.
The operation needs at least 20 days to conclude the oil cycle and upon its completion the surface will result satinized, soft to the touch, protected, resistant to water and to stains, such as wine and coffee.
Besides, thanks to this treatment, the wood will maintain through time the personalized aroma, chosen by the client. In this case, a delicious amber scent will pervade the rooms, enhancing the beauty and sensoriality.
We would like to thank the architect Luisa Fontanella and the client for entrusting us with this project, full of memory but elegantly projected into the future. From now on a new story will be written about the antique parquet, brought back to its original beauty.
