The 'herringbone' pattern, a great classic for two style choices.

The term 'spine' comes from its shape, which is reminiscent, precisely, of a fishbone. MFDesign handles two types of spines: the French spine and the Italian spine.

The French or Hungarian fish bone is characterized by laths of a fixed size, inclined to each other at an angle of 45° or more (up to 60°). Straight lines are formed at the junction of the elements, giving an optical effect of greater directionality. The origins of French herringbone parquet date back to the 17th century, during this period French nobles considered it a real must to enhance their prestige, an example being the Palace of Versailles.

The Italian or classic herringbone pattern is characterized by the typical right angle (90°) that forms between the strips that compose it. Each rectangular slat rests head-on on the side of the adjacent one, forming two rows of slats perpendicular to each other. The Italian herringbone pattern dates back to the 1st century AD, in which the ancient Romans laid the bricks of the streets in the classic herringbone pattern. Starting from the 17th century, the to be used as a parquet installation pattern even within fortresses and estates of the Italian bourgeoisie.

MFDesign takes its cues from the past,
it combines authentic tradition with continuous innovation.

MFDesign's talent lies not only in the hands of its craftsmen, but also in the skill of the installers. Herringbone laying gives an alternation of tones due to the different angle of impact of light on the various elements, generating a play of natural shades.
Precision, accuracy and professionalism are essential tools for the execution of a workmanlike laying, the geometries of herringbone parquet give a dynamic and refined touch, and the play of light creates an almost scenic effect.
Our sartorial approach makes our achievements versatile, there are no limits to designs and compositions, and this is precisely why each type of floor easily adapts to any type of environment, creating ad hoc solutions.

A laid herringbone floor, whether in the French or Italian style, is still a timeless style choice of character and good taste.
