A wooden false ceiling (also called drop or suspended ceiling) is an ideal choice to give a warm and natural look to your rooms without neglecting the functional side. Wood is very suitable as drop ceiling material and can be used to obtain all the usual benefits such as: thermal and acoustic insulation, creating space for systems (lighting, heating, air conditioning, pipes), covering roofs and slabs (aesthetic function).

Many types of wood can be used to create a false ceiling, such as: walnut, fir, larch, elm, oak, ash, beech, maple, hornbeam, cherry and pine.

Compared to other materials such as brickwork or plasterboard, the use of wood guarantees a quick and minimally invasive installation (dust, plastering, etc.), furthermore the final result is structurally very light.

and Functionality

The two main types of wooden drop ceilings are:

Coffered Ceiling:combines a load-bearing frame with wooden panels (tiles) that can be glued, nailed, or interlocked to ensure easy removal if necessary. The wooden covering is made with rectangular panels, with flexible dimensions and thickness, solid or perforated. The frame is usually made of fir wood beams or aluminum uprights.

Planks Ceiling:the covering is made with wooden planks (also called boards or slats). There is a lot of flexibility in length, width and laying pattern. For example, they can be laid running, as ship deck or other customized options to suit the tastes of the customer or the interior designer.

The boards can be nailed or glued to load-bearing elements such as beams, floors or other structures.

Finishes and Colors for your wooden ceiling

The choice of materials, workmanship and finishes can achieve multiple aesthetic results: rustic or satin, dyed or natural, glossy or opaque. Bleached wooden ceilings are very popular to give brightness to the rooms, lacquered wooden ceilings have a glossy and modern look, planks ceilings with exposed beams bring a rustic appearance.

A wooden false ceiling is an ideal solution for multiple needs:

  • Thermal and acoustic insulation
  • Creating a space for electrical, heating and air conditioning systems
  • Easy integration of lighting systems
  • Solving humidity problems on brick ceilings
  • Give warmth and elegance to the rooms
  • Reduce the height of the rooms and regulate the temperature more easily

Depending on the choice of materials, installation method and finishes, wooden false ceilings can adapt to all design styles: modern, classic or rustic. The interventions can be completed in a few days and generally do not require permits.

Why choose a wooden drop ceiling?

  • Thanks to many options of materials, treatments and finishes it can suit all types of design
